What is DCIM?
Data Center Infrastructure Management
DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) is software that monitors, measures, and manages a data center's IT and facility infrastructure — power, cooling, space, and assets — to improve availability, efficiency, and capacity planning.
What DCIM gives operators
DCIM correlates facility data (power chain, cooling, environment) with IT and asset data to answer questions a BMS alone cannot: where is stranded capacity, what is real-time PUE, which racks are thermally at risk, and how will a change affect power and cooling headroom.
DCIM vs. data center BMS
The BMS controls infrastructure in real time; DCIM sits above it for analytics, capacity, and planning. Integrated together — as Pontis delivers — controls and analytics share one trusted data source.
Frequently asked questions
Is DCIM the same as a BMS?+
No. A BMS provides real-time control of facility plant; DCIM provides monitoring, analytics, asset, and capacity management above it. They are complementary.
