What is KNX?
KNX building control standard
KNX is an open, ISO/IEC 14543-3 standard for home and building control — particularly lighting, blinds, and room automation — enabling interoperable devices from many manufacturers on a common bus.
Where KNX fits
KNX excels at decentralised room and lighting control: switches, dimmers, blind actuators, and HVAC room units share a robust two-wire bus with no central point of failure. It is frequently integrated upward into a BACnet BMS for whole-building supervision.
Frequently asked questions
KNX vs BACnet — which should I use?+
Use KNX for room/lighting control and BACnet for plant and supervisory integration; the two are complementary and commonly combined via gateways.
